Understanding the Power of Giving
People often give for the wrong reasons—out of guilt, obligation, self promotion, and/or necessity. It is critical to understand that our motivation for giving should be rooted in a desire to show our Christ like love for others. It is important to recognize the motivation behind your giving, because if you have given in the past, but not with the right heart, it may profit you nothing—either spiritually or financially. 1 Corinthians 13:3 says, ”And though I give all of my goods to feed the poor, if I have not charity, it profits me nothing.” Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things (your needs) shall be added unto you (taken care of). Praise be to God!
God’s blessings to you can only flow through faith in His Word. When you become a cheerful giver (or sower), and sow not grudgingly or out of necessity, God promises to supply you with more than enough to meet your needs. 2 Corinthians 9:8-10 says that God gives seed to sowers and bread to eaters. Those who desire more money so they can get their needs met are eaters. Those who desire more money so they can give more are sowers. God uses people to bless others. 2 Corinthians 9:8-10 tells us that the generous believer will always prosper in two ways: financially—that all of his needs will be met and he will have surplus to give to others, and spiritually—that he will increase in everything. Proverbs 11:25 says, “The liberal soul shall be made fat (prosperous): and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.”
God wants us to prosper. (Psalms 35:27). However, God’s purpose for our prosperity is so that we may bless others. Ephesians 4:28 says, “Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.” This verse says that the reason we should work is so that we can give to those that have need. That’s amazing. If we allow God to channel money through us to those in need, He is able to get more to us. Give to others, and allow God to prove to you that He is your source.
